DIY Holiday Gifts with Kids

Part of the fun of being a parent is capturing milestones to look back on and the holidays are a perfect time to do that. There are a handful of crafts you complete with children, even as little babies, that can be turned into gifts for the family. Think aunts, grandmas and great grandmas, especially this year when those around us are missing milestones being apart so much. Another bonus: these use minimal supplies you may already have and take no time at all to complete.

1. Salt Dough Ornaments

This one is a classic. You combine equal parts flour and salt and then add water to make a dough that isn’t too sticky but comes together well. Once it’s together you roll out the dough and press hands or feet into the dough. (This is even possible for pet parents just don’t let them eat it!)

When you get the print you want you may either let it sit at room temperature until it dries or speed up the process by baking it at a low temperature. Then comes the fun, painting it to your desire. Older kids can help out with the painting for a fun afternoon craft.

2. Glass Print Ornaments

This one is a quick little project to pull together with just paint, a glass ornament and craft snow. You can paint a hand or foot with red or green paint, stamp the ornament, let it dry and then add the snow to the bottom. To make it even more festive you can add some ribbon.

3. Paint Prints

These can be done on canvas, printer paper or cardstock like here. Paint a hand or foot, press it to the paper and then decorate after it dries. You can make all kinds of different holiday themed things such as snowmen, penguins or reindeer. We went with a mistletoes for ours. You could even frame it to make it even more special.

Whichever craft you chose with your kiddos will not only be a gift to the receiver but to you as well as you make memories together.

We wish you the very best holiday season!
